There’s something magical about seeing the look on your child’s face as she discovers the wonders of Oakland’s Children’s Fairyland. It’s even more special knowing her grandmother may have enjoyed some of the same delights. Fairyland turns 60 this month, and the fact that it makes no efforts to keep up with high-tech amusement parks doesn’t bother its pint-sized patrons – or their parents – a bit. The sweet simplicity of this 10-acre storybook-themed park, reputed to have inspired Disneyland, is timeless. Grab your Magic Key for the anniversary celebration, Sept. 11 and 12. $7. fairyland.org.
